2017 Bulls Dail-E Grinder Review

The 2017 Bulls electric bikes are arriving! I’ve loved this company since I first rode their bikes last year, and I couldn’t wait to see what 2017 had in store. Bulls upgraded 2017 models have some significant improvements over last year. In this post, I’ll focus on a speed pedalec. Here is our 2017 Bulls Dail-E Grinder Review.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice the very specific style of this electric bike. The 2017 Bulls Dail-E grinder features a classic road bike setup including drop bars and a very forward body positioning. This was a pretty interesting move because you don’t see many electric bikes set up this way. Bulls pulls it off, however, and offers a great electric bike for commuting.

The Bosch performance speed motor is beautifully integrated into the frame. Bosch gets better at this every year. I love when the ebikes I ride look like traditional bikes. They’ve upgraded your battery to 500 watt hours, meaning you can go further per charge than last year’s models. It’s nice to have this extra battery life because you are probably going to want to take this bike up to it’s max speed of 28mph as much as possible. The motor also features shift sensing which means you are not going to mash your gears as much when shifting up hills. It’s really the perfect motor for commuting because it does give you so much power. You can work as hard or as little as you’d like.

I’d also like to point out that Bulls offers an aluminum bash guard underneath the motor. While this is a little heavier than the plastic guards most companies offer, I think the extra protection on the motor is worth it.

Taking a look at the components, Bulls has included features that make this electric bike even more desirable. The 2017 Bulls Dail-E Grinder has electronic shifting and 11-speeds from Shimano’s Di2 Ultegra system. Electronic shifting is great because it’s more precise and doesn’t need to be tuned as much. The Shimano brakes on 160mm rotors give you plenty of stopping power. The 28″ wheels offer great control, and the Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires come with a reflective sidewall for increased visibility at night. Of course, Bulls has included a headlight and taillights, a necessary feature on any high end commuter.

Riding this bike was awesome. I’ve done my fair share of road racing, but this is definitely the most comfortable road bike I’ve ridden. The shifting is pretty flawless, and the motor offers a ridiculous amount of support. It’s like being on a motor bike. You can stop on a dime, and get back up to speed quickly. I would highly recommend this bike for commuters looking for an alternative way to get where they are going.
