The long-awaited 2017 Haibikes are here! As we sat in the shop eagerly awaiting the delivery, the staff over at Fly Rides diligently reviewed all the technical specs and upgrades. One of the first bikes we built was the 2017 Haibike Sduro Hardseven 4.0. This base model hardtail offroad electric bike provided an impressive package in 2016 for a very reasonable price, and 2017 is no different. Here is our 2017 Haibike Sduro Hardseven 4.0 review.
Out of the box, you see the updated color scheme. I like this year’s paint job. It’s just a nice gray and black with accents of yellow, and little more androgynous than last year. The Tektro HD M285 brakes are nice bump up from the 2016 model. They provide excellent stopping power and last a long time. I also really dig the switch to Smart Sam Schwalbe tires. The Smart Sam model they have on the Hardseven 4.0 provides a reinforced wall for extra defense against flats, and I also think the Smart Sam best suits what I want to do on this bike. That is, they seem to better switch from trails to roads, and provide enough traction to do some pretty fun single track trails.
The Yamaha PX 500 watt motor remains largely unchanged, but has plenty of power for this particular bike. Yamaha did a great job of closing the gap between itself and some of the higher cost motors. They are efficient, well-integrated, and quiet.
Riding this bike is a solid experience. This electric bike definitely keeps you in the action. You could take this on some steep hills and really allow yourself to get a workout if you wanted, or you could bump up the assist to “high” and relax into it. The new steel spring suspension (substituted from an air spring) still provides some solid support in the front fork for a very smooth ride. For being a low-priced hardtail, this bike rides incredibly well.
