The 2017 Haibike Xduro Hardnine 5.0
Over at San Diego Fly Rides, we have been long awaiting the arrival of the 2017 Haibike line. We are excited to say they have finally started coming! These ebikes look really great. Of course, looks can’t be everything. We’re giving you an overview of what to expect when you’re expecting…a 2017 Haibike. In this post we’ll look at the 2017 Haibike Xduro Hardnine 5.0.
Avid followers of Haibike will notice that you have options in the Xduro HardNine field this year (the 5.0 and 6.0). I think we’ll start to see companies offering more options with bigger wheels because you get better traction and control along tough trails. Haibike stays ahead of the game this year by offering multiple options in what I’m guessing will be the more popular wheel size long term.
There are a couple of big upgrades in the 5.0 from the 2016 RX. Probably the most important is the 100 watt hour bump in battery life to 500 watt hours. This means you’re getting a much longer ride, about a 20% improvement on last year. You’re also getting a solid upgrade in your rear derailleur with the Sram NX 11-speed. Haibike continues to offer 100mm of air suspension, but this time in a Suntour fork with remote lockout. I love remote lockout because I vary my rides between roads and trails a lot. Having the lockout switch at your fingertips makes it very easy to transition from rockier trails to a more rigid feel for road riding.
500 Watt hour battery
When you hop on the bike, you start to really feel the difference in the geometry. Haibike has offered a more open ride in their 2017 models, which relaxes the ride a bit. It just feels better. Going up steep hills and getting started from a stop is a breeze thanks to the 75 nm of torque offered by the Bosch 350 watt CX performance motor. The Tektro HD-M285 hydraulic disc brakes offer nice, balanced stopping power on both roads and trails. While I wouldn’t take this on any serious downhills, the bigger Nobby Nic tires provide more traction and support than I remember on last year’s model. I would feel comfortable riding this bike on intermediate single-track trails.

Overall, this is a great bike especially for being the entry level into the Nine/Seven series. I’d recommend this bike for people who want a versatile bike that will allow you to commute, trail ride, and maybe take on a mountain biking trail every now and then.
